Defining and exposing environment variables with Hem for use in a SpineJS app.
I like defining environment variables - they allow me to keep my code clean and tidy when it comes to using things like API keys & secrets, usernames, passwords, connection strings etc. So where possible i use environment variables to extract the repetitive use of these. The aspect of my job that this helps with the most is when things change, later down the line. I don’t have that nervous job of making sure i’ve updated API keys and secrets in every place within my app; a couple of changes to the environment variables and we’re good to go.

Using Javascript to plot lines between coordinates on a canvas.
I attended Kyan’s awesome WXG yesterday, in Surrey. A one day, 2 track conference catering for both designers and developers. This was its second year in operation and also the second time I’ve been. Stand out talks came from the likes of: Seb Lee-Delisle (@seb_ly) and Gavin Strange (@jamfactory), both of which inspired me to just tinker a bit more and publish stuff, no matter how small or insignificant; not that any of the work either of those two are doing is insignificant. One of Seb’s projects that particularly inspired me was his ‘Lunar Trails’ project.

Killing Foreman Workers Locally on OS X.
I was in a situation the other day where i used ctrl+c (OS X) to kill my local Foreman server. However, not all of the workers intiated by Puma had been killed, preventing me from firing up another project on the same port.
